Quarto, tight binding, clean throughout. Thick 4to, blue boards with gold inlay. Top edge gilt (teg) with Fore edge and Chi uncut (deckle-edged). This shows the collector quality of the binding. T.e.g. was done for protection and aesthetics. "Uncut" edges (where the paper is rough, or deckle-edged) show that the book was a premium product that was not fully trimmed, preserving the original paper size. Illustrations are tipped-in (meaning the plate was printed separately and physically glued onto the page), a hallmark of high-quality colour printing before modern printing techniques. This American edition ties back to the UK printer, indicating a high-quality production run. Condition Tight binding, clean throughout. gold inlay is worn. Bumped corners, cloth fading in areas.
